THCa Take Over:
Transforming the Cannabis
Experience
What is THCa?
Within the 100+ cannabinoids found in both hemp and cannabis, come a number of forms of THC. Tetrahydrocannabolic acid (THCa) products have taken the industry by storm in recent years, popping up in seemingly every other gas station, smoke shop, and hemp dispensary. So, what is it? THCa is the precursor to Delta 9 THC (D9) , the primary psychoactive component in cannabis. If the correct amount of heat is applied to THCa, the acid can break down, converting into D9 THC. If activated, its effects can mirror those of D9 THC. Just as D9 THC is found in hemp and CBD is found in cannabis, THCa too is found in both hemp and cannabis. For consumption, THCa is most commonly found in the form of flower/pre-rolls, concentrates, disposable vapes, and vape cartridges.
I Thought Uncle Sam Doesn’t Like THC…
Majority of THCa products found across the country are marketed as being hemp derived and under the general federal limit of .3% D9 THC. Due to hemp and cannabis regulation being a newer & narrow channel of law, much of its interpretation and enforcement is gray at the state and federal level. Hemp regulation specifically, at the federal and state level is quite fragmented. This has resulted in the widespread availability and sale of THCa products.
What’s Team Nurse Been Smoking?
Our team’s preferences vary on a number of different factors. Whenever we receive a shipment, we take it upon ourselves to make sure we get a good “understanding” of the items received. Currently, WNC CBD’s THCa selection has taken Team Nurse by storm. It has been the craze across all of our stores since its arrival. WNC have revitalized and mastered some classic hippie-era strains like Colombian Gold and Panama Red. Both have a smooth smoke with milky pulls providing a nostalgic, uplifting high that will transport you to a beach in Colombia or Panama respectively.
Some other hits have been Chem de la Chem, a sativa hybrid available in 3.5g prepackaged bags, grown using hydroponics. The flower packs a hefty 35.334% THCa complimented with 3.193% terpenes. The terpene profile makes this strain one of the most pungent strains available with a heavy aroma of diesel, with heavy hints of pine and spice followed with subtle notes of citrus. Simply ripping off the seal will make the entire room reek! In regard to its effects, Chem de la Chem gives an uplifting, creative high that can really get your brain going. Simultaneously though, since it is a sativa leaning hybrid, the uplifting feeling is not overbearing.
Another popular strain is PB & J, an indica hybrid also available in 3.5g prepackaged bags, also grown using hydroponics. PB & J is one of the heaviest hitters out of the WNC selection with the flower containing a whopping 36.165% THCa. Comparatively to Chem de la Chem, PB&J’s terpene profile is milder with 2.356% terpenes. The flower gives off a subtle, creamy, aroma with an earthy base. The tri-chromes make the flower glisten in the light, really accentuating the deep purple and amber tones that mirror peanut butter and jelly interwoven into the bud. Despite being an indica hybrid, the “indica lean” is a very slight one; with the flower having effects more similar to a pure hybrid. Team Nurse reported PB&J providing “immaculate vibes” where the perfect balance of relaxation of creativity is met.
THCa offers a fascinating and versatile cannabinoid experience, distinct from its well-known counterpart, Delta 9 THC.
